  • Flexible Classroom Seating!

    Thank you donors for supporting my effort to bring flexible seating options to my students. We have been using the soft seat cushions daily and surprisingly they have survived the excitement we call second grade! I decided to take the legs off of two tables in my classroom for students that wanted to sit on the floor comfortably during instruction. We have a variety of options in our classroom. We use regular desk chairs, stools, soft seats and yoga balls. Having a variety of options gives the students the flexibility to use the seat that best fits their need during that instructional period. I thoroughly enjoy listening to my students discuss who will us the seat options first and their willingness to share when they have used a seat longer than another person has. This experience has taught them patience and respect towards each other. Thanks again! My student and I appreciate you!”

  • Flexible Classroom Seating: Balance Balls!

    My students and I thank you for your donation that assisted in bringing yoga balls in our classroom. The seating choices have given student an opportunity to learn how to share and also the opportunity to practice being fair. Students have the option of the yoga balance balls, soft seat cushions, stools or regular chairs to sit in throughout the day. They have the flexibility to change their seating choice at their leisure. The beginning of the school year was a bit of an adjustment for many students. Having options and learning how to balance their options has progressed tremendously. I love to see my students talk out who will use the balls in the morning and then who will use then in the afternoon. They are exhibiting our PBIS expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Thanks again!”

For the upcoming term, I would like the students to have different options that peak the interest of their personalities and their individual needs. Students that enjoy sitting on the rug will need a comfy seat while they work. Students sitting at their desks may want a fun chair to bounce on like balance balls while they work. If comfort and fun will encourage them to participate and work harder, I'm all for designing something that makes them comfortable in our school home.
