I'm requesting literature that teaches tolerance and empathy including Those Shoes, The Name Jar, The Invisible Boy, Trouble Talk, Not Quite Narwhal, Rosie Revere, and The Sandwich Swap. Adding this collection of books to my classroom will give my third graders the opportunity to build their love for reading and apply learned reading strategies while also teaching them valuable life lessons about tolerance, kindness, and empathy that they may otherwise miss.
With characters and plots that my students can genuinely relate to and connect with, these books will be invaluable in supporting our weekly class meetings centered around character education. Additionally, it would promote meaningful discourse among my students and help to instill core values in students that are visible both in and out of the classroom, as well as beyond 3rd grade.
