Being a student is hard enough but being a student without the proper tools needed to succeed can be a huge hindrance. In my cart you will find a combination of items that students have asked me for through out this past year and items that I believe will set students up for success in my inquiry based learning classroom. This year I will be taking on the challenge of teaching SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) students who will not only thrive on having easy access to necessary materials but will also find success with as many visuals as possible in the classroom. In my cart you will find an actual seismograph that will serve as a visual for my students during the earthquake unit which happens to be one of the biggest units that I teach. The models, flip charts and simulators located in my cart are all ways for my students to see visuals of those concepts as we discuss each topic. The stamps, teacher planner, hole punch and compartment sorter are tools that will allow me as the teacher to successfully organize work and effectively lead my students through the year. My favorite items on the list are the Tibetan Singing Bowl and the Meditation Trio Chime. Each of these items will be used consistently as an attention getter for the class. One of the instruments will be used to start class/warm ups and the other will be used for bringing student's attention back during turn and talk sessions. I believe its important to have multiple attention getters so that students do not become numb to one sound.
