In order to make progress with producing speech sounds accurately, it is essential that my students learn how to move their tongues, teeth, and mouths in order to produce the sounds correctly and then to practice again, and again, and again! Large mirrors will allow me to sit next to my students and show them where to move their tongue and lips to produce various speech sounds accurately. This visual feedback will help them learn more easily and allow them to continue monitoring themselves during practice. The throat scope will not only allow me to cue certain sounds by moving their tongue to a specific place, but also allow them to see where their tongue is going. Research suggests that students make the best progress when they practice their sound at least 100 times during each therapy session! We often cut, color, and glue flash cards while we are practicing so that students can benefit from extra practice at home with their parents. These note cards are the perfect size and can be clipped together for parents' easy access. Finally, dot markers can make all those repetitions fun by using them during art activities and trying to reach 100 productions and making 100 dots!
