My students need access to technology, as its a launching point for most scientific inquiry. We will be doing school differently this year with real-world applications to our Earth and Environmental standards. My students will be conducting research using laptops to access scientific journals, contact scientists, and design a program to inform the school, their families, and eventually, the public. Our goal is to make an impact on our local community by investigating issues locally that can create a global impact. Rather than boring lectures and worksheets, my students need laptops, so they can research what has been done about local issues, design experiments to further our knowledge, contact the community and our government, and change the way things are done. Our first project will be about mosquitoes: why they're here, what we can do about them, and how we can use their ecology to impact our school environment and local community. My students will use the laptops to research what the native populations did to deal with mosquitoes, what is currently being done by Mosquito Control, and design experiments to determine how We can lower the number of mosquitoes without harming our local environment. We will be working with our local Mosquito Control District and communicating with our local colleges to see what they have done. Presentations for the community, experiments on campus, and our background research all require laptops to be successful. Please help us reach out and make a difference!
