Hello all! History has often been a subject that has been dominated by textbooks, maps, and writing. I'm here to show that this doesn't have to be the case anymore. In urban districts such as Trenton don't have access to the technology that other school districts do. In attempt to level the playing field and bring these students the technology they deserve, I have selected five Samsung Galaxy Tab E Lite 7" Tablets that the students would have at constant disposal in the classroom. The reason for why I chose these as my platform for learning is that they are small, durable, and easy to navigate. In a 6th Grade classroom, the characteristics listed above are crucial, and having these in the classroom will provide another tool in which i can use to teach students greater responsibility. While teaching responsibility and having reliable products is important, these tablets will do much more throughout the course of the school year. In my classroom, student based learning is a centerpiece. Students need to be able to dive directly into the content and make those connections for themselves. For example, students will be using these devices to research Hindu gods and provide what they stand for, how they are pictured, and also more interesting facts. This will give them the research skills they need to survive college, and the added excitement feature that normal research doesn't always provide. The integration throughout will bring newfound interest to the topic of social studies. Students will no longer have to wait to have an outdated laptop, but instead have constant knowledge within their grasp. Lets bring the excitement back to history and make it about more than what my students once called, "Dead Presidents and meaningless places on a map." Thank you!
