These magazines would be used during guided reading time and would also be something the students could take home and read with their families. These texts will also be available to them online along with videos. Many of the Scholastic magazines teach students about other cultures, languages and holidays around the world. Since my students have very little access to the internet, books and life experiences outside of the area they live in, these magazines bring these experiences of new cultures to them. I want my students to learn that it is important to be accepting of other people's languages and cultures just like they would want people to be towards them. The students are always engaged and excited to learn about how other people's cultures are similar or different to their own. My students sometimes find it difficult to relate to or be accepted by students who see them as different because of their skin or because they are not yet able to speak English fluently. These magazines will show them that there are so many different kinds of people in the world and it is not only okay to be different, but that they are all unique in their own way, and that that is a beautiful thing.
