My biology classroom is a hub of curiosity. The walls are adorned with colorful posters depicting DNA structures, ecosystems, and evolutionary trees. To teach about macromolecules, we incorporate agility dogs, bringing the science of biology to life by demonstrating how proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids play crucial roles in these athletic animals' performance and health. Mendelian genetics comes alive as we delve into the polydactyl traits of Hemingway's six-toed cats. Evolution is explored through the lens of Darwin's foxes, offering a real-world example of adaptation and natural selection. Finally, the ecology lessons take students outside, where they observe the secondary succession occurring on the high school property. This classroom environment fosters a hands-on approach to learning, where students not only absorb theoretical knowledge but also engage with the living world around them.
