If you're looking to find the melting pot of America, my classroom is a good start. My students are very diverse; many different culture groups are represented. Nine students speak a different language at home. Despite our differences, we work hard and play hard together. It is our goal to be encouraging and respectful classmates to one another. In the neighborhood, there are both single family homes, town homes, and apartments. This means that the socioeconomic status of the students is also diverse. About half of my students brought in school supplies at the beginning of the year. We make do by sharing supplies. School-wide, every student receives a free breakfast and lunch.
