As I organized my class library, I noticed two things. One, my struggling readers did not have much to choose from because many of the books are on a fifth grade reading level or higher. Struggling readers needs books they can handle independently. Secondly, our classroom library lacked diversity, Many of the books in this order have African American characters as the main character. Over 90 percent of my students are African American. Therefore, I thought that it would be nice to have their ethnicity represented in the books they are required to read. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
