As an art educator in a low income school setting I am aware of the lack of exposure to art and healthy self-expression my students may have. Although a thorough art education may not be at the top of my schools priority list because it's not an academic or "testable" subject I still strive daily to teach my students the relevance and importance of art through creative and meaningful learning experiences. The social emotional growth and sense of accomplishment that they gain from art making plays a tremendous role in their lives.
