Our state standards have moved to the common core curriculum and the district is demanding more technology integrated in our courses. As a result, our district tests incorporate rigorous problems that require the use of graphic calculators. These calculators really help students visualize the algebraic world. This would not only help my AP Statistics class, but they would help in my Algebra 2 class also. It helps them take a story problem and turns their linear equation into a model that can improve their understanding of the topic. These calculators also help then take statistical data and organize it, so they can draw clear conclusions. Technology is the gateway into our future, so I would love for my students to have the opportunity to experience this great mathematical tool. These calculators really help students visualize the algebraic world and organize statistical data. It helps them take a story problem and turns their linear, exponential, trigonometric equations into models that can improve their understanding of the topic. Data sets in statistics are usually very large so these calculators will be an essential organizational tool. My students must take the AP Statistics test at the end of the year and having a calculator to use is essential in finishing it in the time frame that they are allotted. Technology is the gateway into our future, so I would love for my students to have the opportunity to experience this great mathematical tool.
