The magnetic base ten and coins will be used during calendar work, learning place value, the value of money, and increasing overall number sense. The blocks, puzzles, cubes, counters, gears, dominoes, marble towers, will be used during centers and games to allow students hands-on activities for counting, building, and increased critical thinking. The large gear clock will help me model time for my students. The large dice will allow for whole-group activities with counting, adding, and finding the difference. Young children learn best when activities are experiential and hands-on. They prefer to be actively engaged instead of passive while learning. Children will find tasks engaging if materials meet their needs for developing new understanding and confidence with learning skills. Having high-quality, open-ended materials will help me to provide them with the learning environment to problem solve, think critically, explore new ideas, be creative, and take on new challenges. Through teacher directed activities, small group practice, individual exploration and play, students will thrive as mathemeticians and scientists in the kindergarten classroom. We need these high-quality, open-ended materials to be successful!
