Let's face it: the details and mechanics of English grammar can be intimidating, challenging, and, yes, sometimes even dull. Using interactive notebooks to teach these key skills and concepts will help students take a more active, "hands on" role in learning. Every year, my classes are comprised of students who read at varying levels. Using interactive notebooks to build and/or refresh grammar knowledge will help ensure that students leave my class on the same page, equipped with the same information. All of the materials for this project will be used to create organized and functional interactive notebooks that make grammar accessible, understandable, and (dare I say it) interesting. The materials I am asking for will help students create interactive notebooks that can be used daily, and that will maximize engagement with the new skills and information they are learning. The Composition books will serve as the basis for the interactive notebooks. Within those books, students will put the other materials - markers, colored pencils, highlighters, scissors, colored paper and gluesticks, and colored pens - to use by making the pages "come to life". The grammar techniques, skills, and pieces of information will be printed on different colored pages in the forms of various cutouts: flaps, folds, tabs, etc. Each page will contain a colored cutout with key information marked or highlighted in specific colors that students have glued into their notebooks. The pencil cases will hold all of the art materials and be placed on each student desk in the classroom. We will be able to refill the containers as materials need replacing. Putting all of these materials to use will provide students with a tangible resource that fosters creativity while promoting learning of key skills in a method that stands out among common grammar worksheets and/or activities. Thank you!
