First graders are learning many foundational skills. In order to master these skills the children need repetition and extra practice. The hot dot activities encourage the children to consistently work on challenging activities. In my class I have many students who are learning a second language. Not only will they be learning critical early learning skills, they will also be to practice what they need in order to master the new language.
These "Hot Dot" activities allow children to independently practice skills that have been introduced during whole group instruction. Not only are the children given a wide variety of lessons, they are also differentiated to meet the needs of varying ability levels.
