Scholars are expected to work hard from the moment our morning meeting begins with our whole school. We have BE GREAT core values for the scholars to embody and work hard to grow within each component. Our core values are bravery, endurance, growth, responsibility, enthusiasm, achievement, and team! I want my students to be praised and supported for showing grit, bravery in social and academic situations, and growth in academic /emotional skills, critical thinking ability, and strength of character! My scholars deserve to be positively recognized for all of their hard work during our literacy rotations! We need incentives to reward our scholars. I will use the superhero capes to reward my scholars for showing responsibility during transitions and the scholar will be our "Hallway Hero." I will use the emoji pillows to allow scholars who've shown endurance during guided reading! Scholars will be working through words with a goal of self-reliance which takes a lot of practice! The emoji pillows will be a strategy to positively highlight the scholars putting in the work for personal growth and achievement. The large sunglasses will be another way I can reward scholars through out the school day. The sunglasses can be earned a variety of ways including showing enthusiasm during a lesson, consistently tracking their peers during a group lesson, and/or showing achievement in one of the content areas. The chart paper, dry erase markers, and pencils are not as exciting as the superhero materials and the emoji pillows, but are amazing tools to help the scholars learn. I use chart paper for various anchor charts that are referred back to and used through out the school year! Using positive incentives help create a warm, fun learning environment for our scholars to truly feel comfortable to grow succeed.
