My preschoolers learn best through play and hands-on exploration, so it’s important to offer a variety of inviting materials that foster reading, writing, and STEM skills while still being fun! Unfortunately, my resources are limited since this is only my second year of teaching. The materials I’ve requested will be invaluable tools for integrating preschool standards while promoting active learning and discovery. This is especially needed in our Library and Writing centers - which currently consist of a bookshelf, beanbag chair, stationary, and three dry-erase boards. Items like the alphabet tubs, stamps, playdough mats, magnets, and sandpaper letters will stimulate the children's interest in letter recognition and help them develop their writing skills. The pattern blocks, magnetic tiles, and padlocks will be an awesome addition to our Math center, exposing the kids to geometric shapes, number recognition, spatial relationships, and problem solving! We rely VERY heavily on music in our classroom for singing, gross motor activities, daily transitions, and the occasional dance party. It would save so much time between activities if we had an MP3 player to keep in the classroom, rather than shuffling through a stack of CDs for specific songs. I’m also asking for supplies to build a listening center for our library to really make reading come alive! My vision is to send the voice recorder home to each family so parents can record themselves reading their children’s favorite books from school. Students could then listen to these audio stories with headphones in our Library center, enabling them to “read” independently during free time and bringing a little bit of home into the classroom.
