The AP English Literature and Composition course allows scholars the opportunity to fulfill a freshman-year English requirement while still being in high school. In order to succeed on the final exam that earns the credit, the College Board suggests scholars have read upward of 100 high-quality literary works across American and English literature. They have read many works of high merit, but most came once they reached 9th grade at our school. Most scholars do not have a history of rigorous instruction or a personal library of complex literature. Your donation will help put our scholars on an equal playing field with their peers outside the South Side of Chicago. With the lack of resources throughout their education, our 26 scholars simply haven't had the access to rigorous texts at the same rate as other areas of the region. They possess and often exceed the levels of analysis and critical thinking skills required to succeed in such a class. All that is left is ensuring they're exposed to the physical texts to allow them to demonstrate their brilliance. The three texts on the list allow for scholars to connect their own diverse backgrounds and challenges with the intricate work of literature's most famous authors and their characters.
