In this day and age of technology, our students need the chance to learn and grow from experiencing technology first hand. They need to be able to touch, see and participate in hands on learning and literacy activities to help them incorporate skills that will assist them to be productive learners within the 21st century. It is important to pair the technology discussed above with literacy tasks that are hands on so there will be a balance of technology and actual book experiences. Providing the opportunity for emergent literacy emersion through the use of real books with virtual ones, will give the students a better learning experience, by holding the book, looking at the pictures, turning the pages, and tracking the words as they learn to read, which will allow them to enjoy the whole emergent literacy experience through different perspectives. The plan for the requested items will be as follows: The iPad, Otterbox, and HDMI VGA Adapter will be used to provide the students the opportunity to learn about emergent literacy through the use of technology and hands on interactive activities projected through our classroom audio-visual display system. The students will be able to participate with stories, by identifying/naming vocabulary, identifying and discussing pictures, identifying beginning letter and sounds in words, and participating in sequencing activities. The Center Time Learning Display will provide the students with a reference of the letter, color, shape, and numerals being discussed for the week so they can identify them in the emergent literacy activity being displayed on the iPad and in books. The display bins and cube chairs will provide the students with an organized comfortable area that is a designated literacy learning center, which they will go to follow up on skills taught and worked on during our circle time activities.
