Think about this: when you are doing your best work, critically thinking, solving problems or checking things off your never-ending list, where are you sitting? For some of us that might be at a traditional work style desk but for many others that might be on the couch, in our bed, curled up in a little "nook" or laying on the porch in a hammock. The skills students need these days, 21st Century skills, can't be taught using the traditional desks in rows and columns. We all know that young children and adults alike all have a need and desire to move. Why continue to "fight" this battle? This project will allow me to begin to set up an inviting environment that is welcoming to young children using wobble chairs, Bouncy Bands, and yoga balls. The environment will have a variety of seating options allowing the child to choose what area of the classroom they will be the most productive. The "coffeehouse environment" can promote the freedom and movement necessary to reinvigorate my classroom to create more room for collaboration, creativity and problem-solving.
