The Chromebooks will be used across multiple grade levels. They will allow each student to work at their own level and pace, as well as keeping them motivated to practice many of the skills they need. Using technology to show their knowledge is a 21st century skill that will prepare them to be college and career ready. My Kindergarten, first and second students will use the Chromebooks to practice phonics and phonemic awareness skills that are required for fluent reading and comprehension of complex text. They will also use them to listen to stories to enhance their growing vocabularies and English language skills. My grade 3 students will use the Chromebooks to access a reading program that focuses on both reading fluency and comprehension. Students are presented with short nonfiction stories that they must read at a fluent pace with few errors and answer multiple choice, short answer and open response questions about the subject. Learning about different real life people, places and things is highly motivating for students. My grade 4 and 5 students will use the Chromebooks to read, listen and respond to grade level novels. The Chromebooks will allow for each student to show what they know through constructed written responses using Google Docs. This skill is needed to be successful on state wide testing ,as well as in advanced grade levels.
