Access to a portable stage will allow for frequent school-wide theater and music productions and assemblies with larger audiences where everyone is seated comfortably and able to see. A stage will also allow community artists to perform. The quality Arts program positively impacts student learning and school spirit. As the research states, students who participate in Arts programs have better opportunities to be less bored in school and participate in more community service; develop innate talents; score higher on standardized tests; improve attention and memory skills; and increase student attendance. And very important, our low income high school students who are performing poorly and may be at risk of dropping out of school will have a tangible reason for staying in school. Parents will now have reasons for coming to school and positively interacting with staff. A portable stage will allow for school-wide student and parent drama and "real talk" discussion groups, choir performances, step team performance, school wide plays (performed by our parent and student and staff theater ensemble), and the annual "Celebrating our Young Men of Color" performance (by elementary, middle and high school male students).
