In second grade we spend over 90 minutes each day in math instruction. Students use whiteboards multiple times a day. They are used in both whole group instruction and in small group work. The use of whiteboards allows students to show their work quickly and allows me to see their work and give quick and immediate feedback.
Students work in a variety of situations - small groups, partners, and whole group, and this is usually done from the carpet and can be up to 30 minutes at a time. Having carpet squares will give them some extra comfort to help keep them focused and engaged in the task at hand.
