Interactive Science Notebooks Solidify Learning
Funded Oct 1, 2021The students are using the resources to keep their notebooks organized. Whenever a student is absent, there are always several classmates that are eager and willing to share their notebooks. The students are proud of their notebooks and enjoy using the color pencils to draw diagrams like the Rock Cycle and the Sun. Each year the Science department does a poster project where students get to choose a Science concept to explain through illustration. The color pencils help to make the implementation effortless as I now have enough supplies for each student.
The students were happy and relieved about having the materials. In years past, glue sticks, color pencils, and notebooks were the supplies students were expected to bring to class each day. Because we have the classroom materials available, students are not stressed when they forget their own materials.
My students are now in the process of reviewing concepts learned for mid year assessments. The colorful diagrams and worksheets are a huge part of their understanding. The materials donated were much needed and appreciated.”

Funded Nov 8, 2019My students were extremely excited to receive the new exercise equipment. We have a school wide health and fitness initiative. The students I work with joined the school's track and field team. The equipment is used twice a week for strengthening and toning. The shot put and discus are also used at track meets. The students have never used this type of equipment before. I am glad I was able to introduce them to fitness equipment with your help.
The resistance bands are the most challenging equipment the students have been exposed to. They realize how different types of muscles are used for specific movements. I was able to re teach cellular respiration and how important hydration is to body cells.
The most impactful outcome was that the students have become more academically focused. The use of exercise equipment makes them feel a sense of belonging to something important. They know that their grades must be maintained to be apart of the team. Students do not want to risk losing the opportunity to stay fit and compete in track and field meets. We are now thinking of entering a 5K!”
