Part of what makes this school special is its use of mastery based grading and the ability students have to work at their own pace. This means students do not do 'busy work' or move on to the next project or idea without mastering the previous concept. All students in the class are working on the same unit at their own pace, so everyone is always doing something different than the person next to them. This helps with mastery, autonomy, and personalization of a lessons for all students. Sharing points of of view and learning to be an active and investigative listener is crucial to success in today's world. For my Social Justice and Current Events classes, we will be listening and exploring the worlds of others by using video clips, interviews, and podcasts of diverse people all over our city, country, and world. They will use these ideas they listen to in their own projects for class-connecting themselves to larger communities and ideas around them. These headphones will assist my scholars by allowing them the opportunity to investigate people and ideas that are from all over the world, broadening their horizons and giving them the opportunity to listen to the lives and options of other people.
