Funded Feb 22, 2024I want to express deep gratitude for providing an enriching opportunity to my students. The novel "The Parable of the Sower" explores important and relevant themes, and the graphic novel version makes it accessible to all students, including those who struggle with reading.
Throughout the unit, we discussed personal responsibility, faith, hope, the role of government, and refugee treatment. Students were engaged and able to make connections to their lives, and the lives of their families. The protagonist, Lauren, is a compelling character trying to do better in a world stacked against her. The fact that she is the same age as my students helps me encourage them to think outside themselves.
I can't wait to share this novel with students in the future! Having a class set gives me the freedom to use the text in a way that will best serve my students.”
With gratitude,
