As an elementary school teacher, my goal every year is for my students to learn, feel safe, and build community. Distance learning has not altered my goals, however, I have to be prepared to have the right tools in order to properly interact and instruct my students. Although learning online has been unpredictable in 2020, the technology teachers use should reliably aid teachers in delivering quality instruction. Teaching and connecting with students using a Macbook will help my students be successful during distance learning. We will use video conferencing tools like Zoom to build our classroom community and share ideas throughout the year. We will engage in discussions using an online platform with both synchronous and asynchronous teaching. Students will watch and create videos to enhance their learning. Distance learning requires teachers to be able to store, create, and deliver lessons to all students without that instruction being interrupted due to unreliable, outdated technology. I am eager to be planning and delivering quality instruction which will include many hours on the computer on a weekly basis and making sure that my device is up to date is one way to ensure consistency, engagement, and community during learning.
