In a world where we are so technology driven, I am seeing more and more students who struggle socially. Students that don’t know how to properly engage with friends. Students that don’t know how to problem solve. Students with poor fine motor skills that struggle to just write their name. We are needing materials that will help foster discussions, expand vocabulary and help my students practice skills that they desperately need. “Children learn as they play; most importantly, in play children learn how to learn” -O. Fred Donaldson. While students play and build with Legos, they will be collaborating with friends, problem solving and working on their fine motors. While listening to stories on tape, students will see how words on a page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It will also help them focus on the sounds of words read and will provide a model of fluent reading. Through the supplies purchased in this project, my students will be able to work on fine motor skills, language, and problem solving skills that will help lay the base for their education and everyday life. My students love to learn and engage with one another. It is my goal to create a space that fosters that love.
