Read Alouds, Diversity, Nonfiction, Oh, My!
Funded Mar 16, 2021Thank you so much for your support of my students! This project allowed me to provide my students with diverse picture books, mentor texts for reading aloud, and non-fiction books. During Black History Month in February, I became aware that my bookshelf did not offer students the diverse titles and topics that I wanted for them. This project allowed me to provide those!
When these books arrived, I set up a 'book tasting' which allowed the kids to rotate around and see what was going to be available for them. The students were so excited and already selecting books that they were going to be checking out.
Thank you for supporting my students and helping me to provide these books!”

Funded Mar 16, 2021I cannot thank you enough for your support of my students. This project means a lot to me because I was able to request books that my students had a hand in selecting. My students were able to share books or topics that they wanted to have access to and those were the books that I requested. These included some books that were part of a series that we already had some of, new titles, lots of graphic novels, and some diverse books.
We did a 'book tasting' of these books when they all arrived. This allowed the students to see the books that were available for them before they were put on the shelf. The students loved looking through the new books! Many had already 'called' a few before I shelved them. They have all been flying off the shelves since then.
One special story that I want to share involves one of my English Learner students. Many of the books from this project were diverse and involved characters that many of my students could relate to. This student was reading one book with a character who is from his home country. As he was looking through this book, his face lit up! He was so excited to show me that one of the illustrations in this book included a text bubble. Inside of this text bubble was a phrase that I could not read because it was not written in English. I was prepared to tell him that I could look it up for him but he excitedly told me that "This book speaks my language!". This student had not ever been so excited to be reading in my class. I am so thankful for your support so that I can provide books like this to my students!”

Funded Dec 1, 2020Thank you so much for your support of my classroom. My students have really been enjoying these indoor recess bins.
Usually when the weather is not prime for outside recess, students play games and do other activities in the classroom. COVID brought new challenges to this. Students were not able to play together and share materials. These recess bins have been a great modification to allow the kids to still have creative free time while staying distant and safe.
The kids really like all of the things in the recess bins! It seems that their favorite right now is the play-doh. Many of them have been perfecting their play-doh pizza skills.
Thank you for your support of my students!”

Funded Mar 2, 2020Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom. I am so appreciative of your help in giving my students the supplies that they deserve.
This project was very special to me because I was able to have my students help me identify books that they would like to have in our classroom library. I try to keep my library filled with books that I think my students will enjoy. There are some series and books that I am unfamiliar with but my students enjoy reading. This was a project where my students gave me wish-lists for our library. I was so tankful to share the news that their wish-lists had been granted thanks to generous donors.
Unfortunately, our world changed quickly after this project was funded with the school shutdowns and COVID. I was thankful to allow my students to take some of these books home to borrow. This gave my students an opportunity to read the books they helped select. These books will remain in my classroom library for future students to be able to read.
Thank you for your generosity and your support of my third graders!”

Funded Mar 2, 2020When I made this project, I had no idea that the world was going to change so drastically. I had no idea that my students' lives would change so abruptly and that my teaching would need to be adjusted to a virtual format. This was a huge adjustment for myself and my students to make. We had just opened the amazing packages that had been arriving filled with tons of books that my students helped me select. My students were very sad that they were not able to spend as much time as they expected to read the books.
I was so thankful to have these texts during my time teaching virtually. I was able to record videos reading many of these books aloud. This was an opportunity for my students to listen to the stories that they helped pick out even though so much of their world had turned upside down.
I am so thankful for the donors who supported this project. Thank you for your support of my classroom and for helping my students to have something to look forward to during virtual learning while the rest of the world was becoming very challenging.”

Funded Oct 24, 2019Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. We have already used the Cricut to make fun things for ourselves and for others. We made a thank you card for our friends at Pinnacle Bank who came to teach us about money for Junior Achievement. One class also made stickers of their names to put on their binders. The other class made a project with their preschool reading buddies. Third grade students helped their preschool buddy to trace their hands and then color a piece of white paper. They then went to the cricut to put the paper they colored in the machine to cut out feathers. They were able to use their cut feathers to make little turkey hands with their buddy.
I have loved teaching the kids how to use the cricut and I know they are excited to make more projects soon. Thank you for your amazing support of our little learning community!”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you for your support of my classroom. I believe that my students believe the very best that I can give them, and your support makes that possible.
My students have enjoyed having these wobble stools in the classroom. Having the ability to have a little movement helps them focus on their reading. My students work so hard, and I love that they have what they need to succeed.
My students were so excited when these wobble stools arrived. They knew that they would be given the opportunity to have a little wiggle in their working. They had been used to having wobble stools in previous grades, and I was thankful to continue that.
Thank you so much for your support.”

Funded May 13, 2019I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your support of my classroom. My students deserve the very best, and with your help, I am able to provide that. This project is a special one to me because my students helped me write it. My students decided what supplies that they would like me to add to this grant.
I already knew that I was interested in a grant for recess supplies, but I was not able to decide what equipment. My students all made suggestions, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, etc. One piece of equipment that was especially special for them was the set of pop up soccer goals. They had previously been using spaces on the walls of the blacktops as their goals.
They were so excited when they learned that this project had been funded. They helped me open all of the boxes and put them in our recess buckets. It has been amazing watching my students use these new supplies in their free time.
Thank you so much for your support of my students, it means the world to me.”

Funded Apr 8, 2019I am always so thankful for Donors Choose and the opportunity that it provides my students with. I am so thankful for the support of generous donors and the opportunities for gift codes from Donors Choose. I cannot even begin to say thank you enough.
These headphones have been such a needed addition to my classroom. Students no longer have to argue over the 4 pair of headphones that I previously had. These are helping my students to stay focused and on top of their work. They do a great job blocking out outside noise and distractions. My students have used these headphones for spelling tests, online lessons, and so much more. They are currently being used for some audio assessments. We use them even more than I could have expected.
Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom. My students are very grateful for your support!”
