Many students struggle to stay focused because they simply cannot sit still. I would like to add flexible seating in my classroom to help my students get their wiggles out while still learning. I will have different areas around my room that students can have flexible seating options to help them best succeed. The first place I would like to add flexible seating is in our small group work areas. For my guided reading station, I would like 4 or 5 different chairs for students to use. I eventually would like students to also have flexible seating options at their own desks. I am planning on including stools, balls, and floor chairs for around the room and cushions for on chairs. Students will be allowed to use any of the flexible seating at any time in order to help them be successful. I will use the kick bands for students who like to tap or always need to be moving. I have seen great success with these in other classrooms. I will also use them for students who get upset and mad easily. This can be a great safe way to take out some tension. Kids' learning shouldn't be sacrificed simply because they can't sit still. I hope to eventually have enough flexible seating for every student in my classroom. I want my students to have different seating options at all times.
