  • Comfortable Space for Building

    Funded Oct 30, 2023

Thank you so much for your help, support and generosity! We are so excited to utilize these resources in our classroom. The students are going love sitting comfortably in their new rug as they use their imagination to build! They are going to love cooking up some new recipes with their cooking supplies too!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D.

  • Everybody Loves ELMO!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations! Thanks to your help we are able to learn and grow by sharing our ideas and work with one another. Students learn best when they tackle problems together and engage in meaningful discussions. They learn from mistakes and by challenging each other and asking questions. They also learn from teacher modeling and demonstration. All of these things were made possible thanks to your thoughtfulness and help. Thank you for helping my students achieve their goals and become more successful learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D.

  • "Easely" Displayed!

    Funded Apr 24, 2017

Words can not describe how truly thankful my students and I are for your generous donations! I now have the opportunity to model and explain math problems on a large easel for the entire class or reteach a small group of struggling students thanks to the easel's mobility. The dry erase board allows this tool to be used several times a day for various subjects and different areas of the room. It allows me to team teach alongside an ENL or AIS teacher or to parallel teach by pulling aside a reteach or enrichment group. The students love that the board is also double sided and that one side is lined. It helps a lot with modeling writing and paragraph format. The bottom shelves are extremely useful for storing markers, erasers, pointer sticks and many other materials so that they are easily accessible. The easel is also a great display area for anchor charts or problem solving tips. Thank you for helping my current students as qell as my future second graders by providing us with a tool that will last a lifetime!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D.

  • Teaching Through Technology

    Funded Dec 16, 2016

Thanks to your kindness and generosity my students and I have access to technology all day long. They have been using reading programs such as Raz-kids and Myon to increase their reading levels and gain access to varieties of books that match their lexile levels as well as their interests. Many of my students have even gone up 2-3 reading levels!! We have also been using our new tablets to research the Solar System and gather information for our newest Nonfiction writing unit. They love finding new facts and images about their planets. However our use of the tablets doesn't stop there, we are also using them to practice our math skills during math stations by logging onto math sites like IXL and Mathletics, which allows them to compete against classmates, peers and even other 2nd grade mathematicians around the world! Children that need to be retaught a lesson or skill can log onto our Math program itself and utilize their online math tools or access tutorial videos that walk them through some of the challenging problems in their workbooks. Some of my students love listening to our online science lessons and doing the fun activities that they include. Our most recent use of the tablets were for opportunities to teach the children about computer programming and coding.

These tablets are being used so often each day and have made my student's love of learning even stronger. They love using them and actually jump with excitement when they look at the reading and math rotation charts and see that their group is using the tablets. The students and I cannot thank everyone enough for the incredible gift that has been given to us. We have already been using them so much but yet everyday I continue to look for more ways that I can incorporate them! Next up...Osmo and Aurasma!”

  • Classroom Carpet

    Funded Jun 22, 2005

On behalf of my students and I we truly mean it when we say "thank you so much" for donating this carpet to our classroom. Your kindness and generosity really means a lot to me, and the children. I am constantly trying to improve our classroom conditions, and give the children a positive learning environment and now we can finally have a carpet (meeting area) that we will actually enjoy coming to.

When I first saw the email confirming that my request had been funded, I nearly jumped out of my chair. I was so excited and now even though we are near our summer vacation I wish it was September again.

    Thank you again!

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Carist”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D.

Many of my students come from low income families and are unable to utilize technology in their homes. My students also come from many different countries and their families are limited in the English language. However my school along with our after school program provide many online opportunities for students to increase their English, math and literacy skills. Some of these programs include Raz-kids, IXL, Mindplay, and Brainpop. These sites are interactive, engaging and self paced allowing each student to learn and explore at their own pace. This project will also help my students develop a deeper love of learning and use technology to research, explore and gain more information about the topics they are learning about. They can watch videos about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty to get a better understanding of landmarks in NYC or research information about sharks to complete a Nonfiction writing piece.
