This year, my plan is to transform my standard classroom into a flexible-seating classroom. After doing much research on this topic, I have found that there are many benefits of using a flexible-seating approach to learning. The benefits are endless and include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. In order to implement this new model effectively, I will need seating options for all of my students. I will see two groups of twenty-five students everyday. One type of seat that I would like for my classroom are wobble stools. Wobble stools allow students to keep their body engaged and not sedentary, as regular chairs would. Studies show students that a moving in the classroom have more on-task behavior and learn better. This would also be the case for the yoga ball seats, bike desk, as well as the balance pads. The goal is to incorporate movement throughout the day with these flexible seating options.
