We will be using these chemicals to demonstrate different chemical reactions. These supplies will be used by the entire Physical Science department reaching around 500 kids. This will stimulate student interest in the subject and stir their imagination. Science demonstrations help to inspire us and drive our interests. The Potassium Chlorate will be used to rapidly, and very energetically, break down a gummy bear. This reaction mimics the breakdown of sugar in our stomach but at a much faster rate. The Hydrogen Peroxide will be used to create "Elephant Toothpaste". This will allow students to see the effect of a catalyst on a reaction. The Sodium Hydroxide and Zinc will be used to create a brass coated penny. This will allow students to see the physical appearance of the penny change from copper, to "silver", and then to "gold".
