Sensory Play for PreK
Funded Jan 23, 2018Thank You so much for the green sensory balls. The children have begun using our sensory table and are loving it! Our young students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, funny, creative, honest, cute and definitely eager to learn. The community is diverse and considerably lower income. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
We are so grateful for our new sensory center for our pre-k classroom! We use our light table every day during center time to explore our five senses as we play, create, and become capable, curious investigators. I have started putting a tray full of balls on our light table so the children can experience a bright, fun sensory activity.
Sensory play provides a unique learning experience that is totally "hands-on" and exploratory. The children have been able to explore the world while having fun. Sensory play supports language development, problem-solving skills, social interaction and is a good way for the children to relieve stress. Thank You so much for your donation, it has made a big difference in the school lives of a group of cuddly four year olds.”

Dust in the Wind
Funded Dec 27, 2017Thank you so much for the new vacuum cleaner for our preschool classroom. I started using the vacuum cleaner and it does a beautiful job on the classroom carpets.
The children can now play, read and take naps in our classroom on fresh, clean carpets. T
The new vacuum cleaner makes it possible for the children in our care to come into a sanitary classroom everyday. I plan to lock up this vacuum for safekeeping and will take good care of it so that we will have it for many years to come.
I will make sure that the vacuum cleaner will be cared for properly. Once again, thank you and Happy New Year!”

Little Picassos Growing Up in the Big Apple
Funded Dec 27, 2017Thank you so much, for caring enough about my young students to donate these materials for our preschool classroom . We use a lot of paint and art materials during the year and we constantly need more. Art is a big part of our day and the children are always curious and ready to invent.
It is so important to give young children an opportunity to be creative and use their imaginations. The children are so proud of their work at this age and this is so important for their self-esteem. The children will learn through these hands-on art activities and will be given a chance to explore the world around them.
Thank you both again for choosing our proposal. We are an enthusiastic group of preschool children and we love to create beautiful masterpieces. These art materials will definitely ignite their creativity and give them the chance to use their little imaginations. You have both made a big difference in the lives of 18 preschoolers!”

Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you to everyone who made the arrival of Professor Bread become a reality. The children had a great time baking with Professor Bread. In Pre-K, we are always working on fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. The children got to use these skills when they got to grind wheat, beat, crack, mash, knead, squeeze, spread, and mix. By following a recipe, the children have learned to organize and measure ingredients, follow a sequence, and carry out directions.
The children had the unique opportunity of grinding wheat into flour and make butter from scratch. They were also introduced to rolling pins, whisks, measuring spoons, measuring bowls, and pans. They were completely engaged from start to finish.
For many of the children, this was their first experience using kitchen utensils and following a recipe. The children truly enjoyed this experience and will have so many wonderful memories. I plan to tie literature on baking and bread in the coming week. This lesson on baking incorporated literacy, math, social studies and science all at the same time.
We are all grateful for the experience and want to say "Thank You" for this spectacular event. The children certainly gained loaves of wisdom!”

Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you, thank you, thank you! The children love to read their special newspapers and they are learning so much. It makes each child feel so grown up and they are eager to begin reading. The children light up when it time to read their newspapers.
The children will learn about holidays, current events, feelings, other people, and the world about them. It is a fun but educational way to learn! The newspapers are giving the children a chance to speak in class and orally discuss the news. The children are also able to follow the simple text and this is building their reading skills.
I am so thankful to all of you for giving my young students the opportunity to gain new information and to be given the chance at becoming successful future readers. The children love their new magazines an they feel really "grown up" completing the short question answer section on the last page. It is so rewarding to see the children grow in leaps and bounds physically, mentally, and emotionally and your donation will certainly help in the development of my little ones”

Intra-Terrestrial 3
Funded Nov 28, 2017The children were completely engaged and in learning about the insects that visited our classroom. When the children are engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science. The Alley Pond Environmental Center truly made nature come alive.
The best part of the program was when a bearded dragon was given a cricket to eat. The children were totally fascinated! The children learn best through experiences that are integrated and were they use all five of their senses. They learned about the different characteristics of insects and their habitats. This experience enriched our preschool program and the children had a wonderful time. Thank you for helping us explore science right here in our classroom.
This was an experience the children will never forget. I have yet to meet a child who was not interested in "bugs." This experience may lead to a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery. Thank you so much!”

This wonderful show featured two characters, Petunia Penguin and polar explorer, Admiral Bird. Together they will transform my little ones into a team of Antarctic scientists. Using games, drama, and songs, they will have a fun, "chilly" expedition. The children will also learn about the adaptations penguins need to survive their harsh polar habitats.
This is one show the children will never forget. This type of experience will most likely lead to a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery. Thank you so much for giving the children the opportunity to experience this incredible show. Thank you both for your generosity as well. It is truly appreciated by me, the staff in my school, the children and their parents.
Thank You All Once Again! Stay tuned for photos of the show and the children in action!”
