  • Sensory Play for PreK

    Funded Jun 12, 2020

It is so good to know that their are people out there like you Carol who care about the education of young children. I am truly grateful. I am so excited to use all the new materials with the children!

This morning we did an activity that went really well. The children had to draw an animal with their new tempera paint markers. The children also added lots of shapes to their new work. We also played with the slime and with the kinetic sand. It is so important that we offer sensory activities throughout the day!

I will take pictures so you can see how much joy these new materials have brought to our classroom. You will not be able to see an improvement in their fine motor skills but I can assure you that these materials will make a big difference. The children also love to create art and if they don't do it in Pre-K they may not get another chance. I love to see them use their imagination and the burst of creativity that happens afterward. They feel so proud and the sense of accomplishment is priceless. Thank you so much for your support and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Preschool Printer Plea

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

Thank You so much for the computer printer. We needed a printer in the room to print photos, letters, plans and sheets of work. It will be awesome to now be able to print photos of the children as well.

We will print some pages this week so the children can trace their name and properly form their upper and lower case letters.

These sheets will help the children with skills such as hand and eye control, motor coordination and fine motor skills. We will also print pages identifying related pairs that will help the children's critical thinking skills and hones their dexterity.

I am so grateful for the printer. I have been going to my neighborhood library to print as my personal printer at home is broken. It will be so handy and convenient to have one in our classroom. I am so appreciative!”

  • Kids Should Play With Dolls (And Yes, Even Boys)

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

Thank you so much! I am so excited because our new doll accessories have arrived. My little students often do not have the enriching, engaging toys that help stimulate their imaginations and learning. The children are going to love playing with fresh, brand new doll toys.

My little ones are fun, silly, loving, energetic, kind and very caring. These new dolls will be a breath of fresh air into our little home away from home. The adorable crib and accessories has already filled our classroom with a sense of wonder and curiosity. For many of my students this is an opportunity to play, learn about friendships and a place to acquire new knowledge and experiences.

Thank you so much for helping to provide the type of environment that will give our four year olds a "magical" year in Pre-K . Your donation has made a big difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Future Caldecott Authors

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

We have started making our storybooks using the blank books and the children are truly excited about the book making process. The children are doing a terrific job illustrating the books and writing stories. They have been so enthusiastic about their new task and are enjoying the new writing and drawing materials.

The look of pride and accomplishment after completing just a few pages of work is priceless.

The picture books are great and are truly capturing the children's imagination and interest. The books have terrific illustrations and story lines that keep the children turning pages. The children love books and to be read to.

Thank you so much for our new picture books. The children are sure to become lifelong readers after being exposed to such great literature. Thank you for the blank books as well. The children will be so excited when they have completed their books and are able to take them home. We are planning to have a publishing party with iced tea and cookies. These books will be cherished for many years to come. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. We appreciate all you have done to help us become readers and writers!”

  • Big Bird Meets Tweetie Bird in the Bronx

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

The children were completely engaged and in learning about birds today because today a naturalist named Kasie from the Alley Pond Environmental Center came to our Pre-Kindergarten classroom. When the children are engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science. The Alley Pond Environmental Center truly made nature come alive.

The best part of the program was when the children got to touch the beautiful turtle dove. The children were totally fascinated! Our preschoolers loved petting the dove and even got to feed her a few seeds. The children got to examine feathers, talons, bird skulls, nests and different eggs. The children were mesmerized by the size of the ostrich egg in comparison to other bird eggs. The children got to touch and examine several different bird eggs. The also learned about the adaptations that birds have had to make in different ecosystems and about the predator/prey relationship.

The children learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. They learned about the different characteristics of birds and their habitats. This experience enriched our Pre-K program and the children had a wonderful time. Thank you for helping us explore science right here in our classroom.

This was an experience the children will never forget. I have yet to meet a child who was not interested in "nature." This experience may lead to a lifetime of learning in exploration, discovery and birdwatching. Thank You all so much! Happy Fall to Everyone!”

  • Mini Matisse Artists from NYC

    Funded Jun 21, 2019

I am so blessed to have wonderful people out there like you Sarah who care about the education of young children. I am truly grateful. I am so excited about this gift especially since I just ran out of many supplies. I know this doesn't sound like an emergency but when you teach Pre-K it is.

The children will love these new materials and it will definitely help with their fine motor skills. The first activity I am going to do is make animals. They will also draw and write about their animal with their new crayons. I am going to have them make a diorama with the paper and wood pieces. The children love adding the shapes to their new work. They can use the paint to decorate the box as well.

I will take pictures so you can see how much joy these new materials will bring to our classroom. You will not be able to see an improvement in their fine motor skills but I can assure you that these materials will make a big difference. • Dr. ZooLittle and His Animals Long to Meet NYC Mini Naturalists

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

We went to the Queens Zoo today. I could not wait to write this thank you note. The children had an awesome experience. The program was exceptionally good. The children were completely engaged and interested in the various different zoo animals and in the entire program especially because of the fact that they got a guided tour. When the children are engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science.

The Queens Zoo made nature come alive in an enjoyable, learning environment. They introduced the children to different animals and the work that takes place in a zoo. They loved seeing and touching the animals up close in the farm animal area of the zoo. They especially enjoyed feeding the animals.

The children got to picnic outside and as they ate, they could view the seals eating fish for lunch. The children even got to see an eagle and a snowy owl for the very first time. The entire trip was awesome from beginning to end. Thank you for the wonderful memories! Stay tuned for photos!”

  • Tales With Tails For Tots

    Funded Jan 23, 2019

I am writing to thank all of you for the wonderful books you have purchased for our classroom. We read the story, "Only One You" today and the children loved it. The children made their own fish and retold the story in their own words. The children are also enjoying "Good Night Owl" and have started making the owl and the mouse. They love reading the books and are having many wonderful learning experiences. The children love the book "Five Little Ducks" and are learning the rhyme by heart. These new books have truly captured their attention.

All of our new books will be read in class and will go home with the children as part of our classroom lending library. I will read each book to the children and I know that the children will enjoy them. I am so excited that l now have a copy of these treasured books for my classroom library.

Thank you for the books. I will now be able to read these books to dozens of children for many years to come. Thank you for your concern and generosity”

  • PreK Longs to Love a New Light Table

    Funded Dec 17, 2018

Thank You so much for the absolutely awesome light table. The children have begun using our new sensory table and are loving it! Our young students come from a struggling community so having something like a bright, colorful light table to learn on is very exciting and special.

We are so grateful for this new sensory table for our pre-k classroom! We have been using our light table every day during center time to explore our five senses as we play, create, and become capable, curious investigators.

I have started putting different translucent materials on our light table so the children can experience a bright, fun sensory activity. For example, tomorrow I am planning to have the children take turns with magnetic, translucent tiles so they can build and construct while experiencing the light.

Sensory play provides a unique learning experience that is totally "hands-on" and exploratory. The children have been able to explore the world while having fun. Sensory play supports language development, problem-solving skills, social interaction and is a good way for the children to relieve stress. Thank You so much for your donation, it has made a big difference in the school lives of a group of cuddly four and five year olds”

My students are four years old and growing up in a big urban neighborhood. Our families are working hard to make ends meet. Our school is filled with caring adults who strive to give the children a stellar education. Our school budget has been cut so we often do not have the financial resources to purchase items we need. The parents of our students very often do not the extra money to buy educational materials for their children and this is why we try so hard to have them available at school.
