How Tragic If ...Young Andy Warhol Didn't Have Art Mediums
Funded Feb 24, 2008Thank you for so for supporting the arts in education! It is so important to focus on creativity at a young age as it builds self-esteem and interest in school. We really needed materials to work with. Yesterday, I brought my two daughters to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and I have so many ideas of how to incorporate what I saw into the classroom.
We have done Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh and starting tomorrow, we will do Poussin. In Pre-k, concepts are taught through art and we really needed these materials for our daily experiences. We will have the opportunity to create beautiful works of art based on what we have been learning, and at the same time the children will be strengthening their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Pre-k is definitely a hands-on grade and we needed appropriate materials for the children to work with. We will also have materials left over for a whole new group of budding artists in September. Once again, thank you for all you have done. Stay tuned for examples of creative freedom in action from some pretty special artists of tomorrow.
Sincerely, Susan ”

Life Imitates Art
Funded Feb 17, 2008I am so thankful to you for deciding to fund my proposal. In pre-k, we read a lot of stories and I am always seeking new ways to enhance my lessons. Storytelling kits are a unique and creative avenue in which young children can express their comprehension of the story read. These materials will give the children many opportunities to work on oral language skills and communication skills. We will read these stories over and over until they feel comfortable enough to retell the stories on their own. While they are not conventionally reading the story, they can retell the story using character voices. The children will be so excited when they see the stories "come to life." I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and also for your concern for children whom you have never met. We will take excellent care of the materials and will use them for many years to come.
Thank you,
Susan ”

Pre-K Students Can Be Future Pulitzer Prize Winners!
Funded Dec 22, 2007Thank you so much for funding our proposal! I absolutely love to see the joy and sense of accomplishment when a child completes a piece of writing. We will spend several weeks working on our writing for our new personal books. The first few months are difficult but then the children really take off. These books will be cherished by the children and their parents for many years to come. We will even have a publishing party with iced tea and cookies when we are finished. Thank you again for your generosity and for caring enough about children to fund this proposal. I look forward to getting started and working with the children. Stay tuned for pictures and notes from the pre-k students. Thank you again”

The Seeds of Expressionism, Renaissance, Neo-classism, Urban...
Funded Dec 19, 2007How fantastic is this! I am so excited that you have decided to fund our proposal for art materials. I cannot wait to get started and have the children create their own beautiful works of art. They will also get an opportunity to explore sensory materials and a chance to enhance their fine motor skills. The children will also learn to plan and complete a project. Art is an important part of the early childhood experience. Each child's unique artwork represents their experiences and ideas. Hopefully, the children will learn the infinite possibilities of using every conceivable material to foster their imagination. I am committed to the artistic development of the children in my care and I want to thank you for helping to make this possible.
Stay tuned for pictures and notes. Susan ”

Onomatopoeia with a Splash of Notes and Syllables
Funded Dec 9, 2007Wow-we got funded. Thank you so much. During the beginning years in a child's education, it is important to provide a warm and nurturing environment as well as an opportunity for the children to develop intellectually while encouraging individuality which builds self-esteem. All of these materials will help build skills so the children can become better readers, explore emotions and aid in language development. Music helps children feel happy and also teaches them to feel good about living, working and playing together. Music also helps engage the children in group activities, identify sounds, improve coordination and builds phonemic awareness. Thank you again for caring enough about children to fund this proposal. These materials will appeal to the children and will help them embark on a wonderful journey towards becoming literate and educated individuals. Stay tuned for photos and notes”

Watch Out, Claude Monet , Pre-K is working on Masterpieces
Funded Nov 16, 2007I just discovered that my proposal was funded! I am so excited, thank you so much for deciding to become a donor. These materials will be used in the artistic development of some very special four year olds. The children will benefit so much from these materials. They need to explore sensory materials and they also need to strengthen their fine motor skills. While they paint they can learn to plan and complete a project. The craft and collage materials will certainly make our art lessons more exciting.
Thank you for making it possible to immerse my young students in the arts. Stay tuned for pictures of the children in action and for their little notes. Once again, thank you for your generosity and for caring enough about children to fund this project. Susan ”

Gotham Writers' Workshop in the Making
Funded Nov 15, 2007I just discovered that we have been funded! I was so excited and cannot wait to get started. Young children are enthusiastic about learning and yearn to begin reading and writing. I have seen firsthand the sense of joy and accomplishment when a child completes a piece of writing. It is a little difficult for them at first, but after a few months they really take off. Young children need to be immersed in learning opportunities and the materials you will supplying us will really help. I will teach them how to do pictorial illustrations and will teach beginning writing. It is so important for children to look back and read their completed work as well as to share their work with friends and family members. The materials are fun and engaging and will really spark their imaginations. Thank you so much for your generosity and for caring about young children. Stay tuned for pictures of the children in action and notes the children will be writing to you. Thank you once again.

Tiny Pre-K Steps are the Ladder to Learning with Big Books
Funded Nov 13, 2007Thank you for funding my proposal for big books. I was so excited when I learned that my project had been selected by you. Big books foster a love of reading in young children. We read the books aloud and the children see the print as the story is being read. This is an important part of getting children ready for reading. These books appeal to children especially since they have big colorful pictures. I cannot wait to receive all of these wonderful new books. It will be a pleasure to take photos of the children and have them write notes. I am truly grateful for your generousity and concern for the children of New York City. Your donation will be used for many years to come and hundreds of children will benefit from them. Thank you once again. Susan ”

Jagged Edged Pieces Lead to the Whole Picture in Pre-K
Funded Oct 27, 2007Wow! It is a rainy, Saturday morning in New York and I read my e-mail that said I had been funded. I am so excited and cannot wait for the children to start using the puzzles. Pre-k uses puzzles everyday and we need a few new ones to stimulate their little brains. They really try hard when trying to put all the pieces together to complete the puzzle. These new manipulatives will enhance our pre-k program and will give children hours of enjoyment for many years to come. I promise to take good care of these puzzles, especially when it comes to not losing pieces. Thank you so much for your generosity and for caring about the education of young children. Pictures of the children and notes will be sent shortly”
