  • A Magic Carpet Ride

    Funded Dec 31, 2014

I cannot thank you all enough for donating the beautiful, new carpet to our pre-kindergarten classroom. The children will love sitting on this carpet for our morning meeting as well as when they are playing. They will also love resting on this pretty carpet each day.

The room looks bright and cheerful with our new clean carpet. I am so grateful to all of you. We will have this carpet for many years to come and hundreds of children will have the pleasure of sitting and sleeping on it. It will make a big difference in terms of comfort and security. The children will also learn numbers and the alphabet daily.

Thank you again for providing a lovely carpet to sleep and learn on. I really appreciate your generosity and concern. It is heartwarming to know that there are people out there who care about the education of young children. Thank you for deciding to help a great bunch of little children you never met but decided to help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Puzzled in Pre-K

    Funded Dec 31, 2014

The children have started using the magnificent puzzles! The children are able to do the puzzles independently or as part of a small group. It is great to see them work together to complete a puzzle because they are not only building academic skills but social skills as well. I have never met a child who doesn't enjoy doing puzzles. The look of pride and accomplishment on a child's face after completing a puzzle is priceless!

The puzzle racks are definitely going to keep the puzzles neat and organized. The puzzles will also be more accessible to the children and easier for them to take and put away. The puzzles will help them with their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, spacial awareness, critical thinking and problem solving skills. It will also foster social development among the students. The children are learning about shapes and patterns in a fun and productive way. It is an enjoyable and challenging way for children to build academic and social skills.

Thank you so much for giving my students the wonderful, priceless opportunity to work on puzzles. It is an important and necessary part of an early childhood education. I really appreciate your generosity and all you have done for my curious little sponges. The puzzles will be used for many, many years to come by enthusiastic four year olds. Thank you for your generosity and concern!”

  • Loaves of Wisdom Ahead With the Arrival of Professor Bread

    Funded Oct 21, 2014

Thank you to everyone who made the arrival of Professor Bread become a reality. The children had a great time baking with Professor Bread. In Pre-K, we are always working on fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. The children got to use these skills when they got to grind wheat, beat, crack, mash, knead, squeeze, spread, and mix. By following a recipe, the children have learned to organize and measure ingredients, follow a sequence, and carry out directions.

The children had the unique opportunity of grinding wheat into flour and make butter from scratch. They were also introduced to rolling pins, whisks, measuring spoons, measuring bowls, and pans.

They were completely engaged from start to finish.

For many of the children, this was their first experience using kitchen utensils and following a recipe. The children truly enjoyed this experience and will have so many wonderful memories. I plan to tie literature on baking and bread in the coming week. This lesson on baking incorporated literacy, math, social studies and science all at the same time. We are all grateful for the experience and want to say "Thank You" for this spectacular event. The children certainly gained loaves of wisdom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

The children were completely engaged and interested in learning about the animals that visited our Pre-K classroom. When the children are engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science. An environmentalist named Jason from the Green Meadow Farm truly made nature come alive. It was a wonderful day! The animals were all available for the children to touch in big, red buckets. The children had a blast!

The children all danced and learned some new songs. The environmental, Jason also blew up a giant, green ball. The children were all amazed. We also invited another class to join us so two classes of children could be a part of this awesome experience. Preschoolers learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. The children learned about the different characteristics of animals and their habitats. This experience enriched our Pre-K program and the children had a wonderful time. Thank you for helping us explore science right here in our classroom.

This was an experience the children will never forget. I have yet to meet a child who was not interested in animals. This experience may lead to a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery. Thank you all so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Tales for Tots

    Funded Oct 28, 2014

I am writing to thank all of you for the wonderful books you have purchased for our classroom. We read the story, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" yesterday and the children were fascinated. The children made their own bears and retold the story in their own words. The children are also enjoying all the "Pete the Cat" books. They love reading the books and are having many wonderful learning experiences to go along with them. Tomorrow, we are going to read some of the pop-up books and this will truly capture their attention.

All of our new books will be read in class and will go home with the children as part of our classroom lending library. I will read each book to the children and I know that the children will truly enjoy them. I am so excited that l now have a copy of these treasured books for my classroom library.

Thank you for the books. I will now be able to read these books to dozens of children for many years to come. Thank you for your concern and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

  • Pre-K Polar Artic Rain Forest Collision Course

    Funded Sep 26, 2014

The children were completely engaged and interested in the Wildlife Theater Company that visited our Pre-K classroom. When the children are engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science and the arts. The Wildlife Theater also made nature come alive in an enjoyable, learning environment.

The children learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. They learned about the different characteristics of animals and their habitats. This experience enriched our Pre-K program and the children had a wonderful time. Thank you for giving us a magical, exciting experience.

This was a show the children will never forget. This experience may lead to a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery. The best part is that we have one more incredible show to look forward to. Thank you both for your concern and generosity.”

  • Pre-K Shake and Bake

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

I am so grateful to both of you for providing a new refrigerator and oven for our classroom. We definitely needed these appliances and we have already begun using them. We made fresh banana bread yesterday. The children learned all stages of bread making, measuring correctly, the kneading process, and the rising and shaping of bread. The children got to discover why it's said, Nothing is tastier than fresh bread. Some of the best childhood memories are born in the kitchen and this is rapidly disappearing in our society. Thank you all for giving us this wonderful opportunity to bake and cook in our classroom, it is a real "gift."

While the children bake and cook they will also learn math and science while not even realizing it. Their eye/hand coordination and small muscle control will also begin to improve as they begin to cook and bake. I believe this will also promote positive social interactions. The children will work together and will learn important skills such as sharing, compromising, cooperating, and negotiating.

Four year olds are learning and having fun when they do something as simple as make banana bread. Thank you for helping to change our classroom into a "magical" one. Happy Fall to all of you and once again, thank you.”

    Mrs. Kelly

My students are four years old and growing up in a big urban neighborhood. Our families are working hard to make ends meet. Our school is filled with caring adults who strive to give the children a stellar education. Our school budget has been cut so we often do not have the financial resources to purchase items we need. The parents of our students very often do not the extra money to buy educational materials for their children and this is why we try so hard to have them available at school.
