• Reading Foundations

  Thank you for your generous donations! You have enabled us to supplement our outdoor literacy center, so students continue to learn pre-reading skills as they play on the playground!

  We have been using the floating ABCs in our water table and the sift and find ABCs in our sand table. Your gift also enabled us to add board books to our outdoor literacy center. Students love to find a quiet place on the playground to sit and look at books or act out familiar stories as they play.

• A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss!

Your kindness has opened up a whole new world for my students as they extend their block play with the props you provided; meanwhile, they have no idea their activities are building their cognitive, social/emotional, communication, math and pre-reading skills!

  Introducing people of differing ages, colors and abilities has enabled the students to see representations of themselves, their friends and their families as they play. As they build roads and use street signs, they are learning about patterns, shapes and how symbols represent different things. As they participate in building and role-play activities, they are learning to work with their peers.

• Easy on the Eyes and on the Nose!

  Thank you for your kind contribution to our classroom! Your money provided mirrors and a diaper pail to help make things "easy on the eyes and on the nose" for our pre-k students. Once the packages arrived we could not wait to tear into them!

  The impact of having an odorless diaper pail has been great. Imagine being one of the few students in a class who is unable to use the bathroom as their peers do. The diaper pail prevents odors that other students are often quick to point out--providing some privacy for those students who are in diapers.

  The mirrors have been a huge hit in our classroom! Besides the obvious use of looking at their reflections, these mirrors provide a variety of opportunities for our students. Students are able to use the mirrors to point out features on their own familiar face and practice forming sounds with their mouths.
