Research has shown that students make more positive gains academically when working in small groups. Students are placed in groups based on their readiness ability. This allows me to better meed their needs at their individual level. By having a variety of high-interest center activities for students to use independently, this will allow me to successful manage a classroom through rotations. In mathematics, the Power Pen resource will allow my students to increase their number fluency and self-monitor their work. In addition, students can use the resource to practice or review math skills covered during whole group instruction. In Literacy, students can practice annotating the text using dry-erase markers through a process known as close reading. This will help them master the Common Core State Assessments that will be administered during the Spring.
