Students in my school are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I want school to be seen as a SAFE place where they can have fun learning along the way! When kids arrive to school with little or no sleep, they are less productive and become very disruptive to the class. Think about how productive you would be with little sleep, angry about what is going on at home and no real coping mechanisms to pull from because you are only five years old. I want to ensure that my kiddos are fed, rested and ready to put their best foot forward. I want them to know that school is a safe place to close their eyes without fear whenever it's needed. I want them to feel comfortable and relaxed. I want them to leave their anxiety at the door to ensure their daily success. With your help I plan to incorporate a quiet "recharging" space in our classroom complete with a futon and a couple of single futon chairs this year. I want to have different stress relieving activities in this area as well. These will come in handy when my little buddies are angry and lashing out. A little rest can make all the difference.
