Adventures in Reading

Funded Nov 9, 2022

Thank you for your generosity with your donations to my project Adventures in Reading. When I created the project, I had been assigned to teach Reading to my 4th grade students. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was changed to teach math and science to 2 different groups of 4th and 5th graders. Although, reading was no longer my class's main focus, that did not deter the goal of my original project.

Many of the books on the project list are math and science related which allowed my students to further their knowledge in that area. In addition, the Black Mountain Products Exercise Balance Stability Discs created flexible seating and a fun way to read. The Label Maker Machine helped me label my library so students could later test on the books in our accelerated reader program. The Sunshine State books on the list helped my students achieve their goals and now since I taught two different grade levels, I was able to reach more students.

Ultimately, despite my classes having math and science as the focus, my students were able to read many books after they were done with their work. Many students became Million Word Readers, Sunshine State Readers and earned their AR goal. This will be an ongoing goal for the students who have until May to reach this goal.

The funding of this project has encouraged our students to be lifelong readers.”

With gratitude,
