My students are 1st - 3rd graders in a public Montessori classroom in South Carolina. The themes of our learning environment are awareness and purpose. We encourage each other to walk with awareness and to find satisfaction and meaning in focused work. We are inspired daily as we read about the lives of those who have walked on this earth before us and help us shed light on the art of living well. In our learning environment students see themselves in context through the care of other living things. Together we care for our classroom space and materials, the Earth, and each other. We learn that as humans we are responsible in consciousness. We learn about choices and free will and that we all have the power to make the world a better place. The Montessori classroom is a very dynamic environment, fostering independence. It's a wonderful way for children to learn as they grow their adult.
