There is always talk about closing the achievement gap, but I look more at closing the opportunity gap! At most Title I schools, the students who attend do not have those technological resources that exemplary schools do, far less a home computer or internet. These simple and commonly found iPads will enrich the academic opportunity for my students just by making it more available. Putting it another way, it will reduce the number of students who have to share an iPad and thereby eliminate idle time. The number of educational apps that are available for free is almost uncountable. But this means nothing if the children do not have the tools to access them. The iPads will also work with some computer based programs (CBP) that the district has purchased like Think Through Math and iStation that are really beneficial to the students.
