I believe that making a great first school experience sets a student up for success. Literacy is the most important skill for a child to have. Many students come to school not being able to identify letters or sounds. Also, having an organized classroom, such as an organized library, eliminates wasted time with students trying to find specific books or materials. These tools will help me provide a variety of interactive and hands-on learning centers, instead of the traditional boring pencil and paper worksheets. The power pen learning materials are a super-engaging way to build literacy skills (including letter identification and phonics) and math skills (including quantifying numbers, addition, and subtraction). It provides instant feedback and tells the student whether they are right or wrong. It's a great way for students to self-check. Having the technology integrated into the activity makes the student interested and engaged in the activity. The magnetic alphabet letters are a hand-on way to build phonics skills, by creating simple CVC words and learning word families. The whisper phones build reading skills. It's beneficial for students to hear themselves read because then can listen to see if it makes sense and self-correct. Boogie Boards are an amazing way to get students to practice sight words and participate in whole group instruction, such as grammar, phonics skills, and math practice. Traditional pencil and paper makes it difficult, especially for young students because when they mess up they spend a great deal of time trying to erase and they give up. The boogie boards are fun for students! They are easy to self-correct mistakes and they work better than whiteboards because there is no need of erasers or markers that dry. This provides for 100% engagement and participation.
