This year, I am focusing on growing strong independent readers. The first step in helping my students to grow as readers is providing them with books and creating an environment where reading is relaxing and enjoyable. Books like "Out of My Mind", "Wonder", "An Abundance of Katherines" and of course Harry Potter, will enhance my classroom library and cater to the diverse set of learners who I have the privilege of calling my students. Having a multitude of books of different genres and reading levels will allow ALL my students to access reading. Independent reading time will be integrated into my instructional time and students will be responsible for taking Accelerated Reading quizzes after they finish their independent reading book to help assess growth as the year progresses.
