  • Scholastic News for All!

    Funded Sep 17, 2018

Thank you for helping fulfill the Scholastic News project for our first grade crew of learners. This magazine has become a regular and much anticipated part to our week. The students look forward to reading and taking home their own copy as well ad exploring the online resources.

As a classroom teacher, the magazines themselves are great, interactive and readable by my first graders! Even better, all the resources that accompany the subscription. Along with individual student copies, we get online access to an etext, game related to the week's magazine, vocabulary builders, and short videos to highlight what is read/learned in the Scholastic News.

This subscription is a valuable, treasured resource and one that supplements our district curriculum nicely!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Steinmeyer

  • Tools To Calm And Focus

    Funded Jul 23, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity to fund the project, Tools to Calm and Focus. With these tools, many students have had the opportunity to calm their body using a fidget tool or timer rather than having a tantrum or treating other friends unkindly.

In my classroom, we have a a "calm down" basket. This is where I have put many of the tools funded by this project. If a student needs a chance to cool down, or calm down they can use a tool to help them.

As I continue the year I plan to continue to provide students with ways to best meet their academic, social and behavior needs. Through the generosity provided by you as donors, this is possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Steinmeyer

  • Flexible Seating for Enthusiastic Learners!

    Funded Jul 16, 2017

Thank you so much for your support to my project, Flexible Seating for Enthusiastic Learners.

The resources received from the project, "Flexible Seating for Enthusiastic Learners" have made a huge impact in our classroom environment. Initially the "wobbly stools" were looked at as a game or toy... the students were excited to wobble! Now, after having practiced why they are in our classroom and how to use them properly, I often see students choose to sit on one during writer's workshop and/or math, just to rock or wiggle a little, all while getting work done.

My students are extremely excited about and very in tune to changes that happen in our classroom. The wiggles and excitement can be channeled in to their work while still be an active learner. Another seating option provided by this project was cushions. These cushions inflate and have texture on one side. Many students like to sit on them - it not only allows some movement while on the carpet, but also strengthens core body muscles.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Steinmeyer

  • The Power of Play to Build Teamwork and Cooperation!

    Funded Jul 15, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity and support for our classroom. Starting the 2017-2018 school year with these new cooperative games has proven to be extremely beneficial in building teamwork and cooperation within our classroom.

In the beginning of a new school year, it is crucial to build a safe and trusting community in which student learning can take place. To do this, we participate in a number of activities to build cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self control.

The activities purchased using the funds from this donors choose projects are not just games or playtime, these are being used for the specific purpose to build teamwork. I hear students saying, "try this" and "let me help." Students are using manners and treating each other with respect.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

My incoming class consists of 23 first graders, 10 boys and 13 girls. Our school is a rural elementary school with 400+ students. Our poverty level is near 40% school wide. Transitioning from kindergarten to first grade can be exciting and scary at the same time. These 6 and 7 year old students love to learn and are excited to be at school.
