My boys and girls spend their days working so hard to improve themselves as readers and writers. Our school is beginning a new reading program that focuses on building their ability to analyze, critique, and respond thoughtfully to books they are reading. They are going to be able to read and think at such a deep level. We will read a new book everyday, this will bring our total to over 180 books! This total is not including the amount of books that will be featured as book talks, the ones used as poetry focuses, and the ones used as writing mentor texts. Our boys ad girls come from homes where books may not be readily available or may be below the kind of rigor we are promoting at school. These books will be used for interactive read aloud, a time where students hear fluent expression filled reading. Independent reading, where students can practice reading skills taught during reading mini lessons and interactive reading lessons. Poetry workshop, when students get to be exposed to poetry in an effort to have them write their own amazing works. They will also be used during writer's workshop for students to study the physical craft of writing.
