  • Creating Tech Savvy History Classes!

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my students. This project has resulted in them being more interested and engaged in history. They appreciate the chrome books that we were given through this project. The chrome books allow my students to watch videos, closely examine primary sources and create technology generated projects about current events, in particular the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election. My students especially appreciate these chrome books because they rarely have reliable, fast and new technology to access for classroom assignments. Thank you so much for giving these gifts to my students. They and I are grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pastore

  • Facilitating Learning about Immigrant Experiences

    Funded Oct 21, 2017

My students have been using the donated Chromebooks frequently in class. They can navigate google chrome easily to research topics and complete assignments. They are very appreciative for the new technology that they have as a learning tool. They have become comfortable using google drive and sharing documents. It has been a pleasure to watch the students benefit from using the Chromebooks and making progress with their technology skills.

A sincere thank you to all of you who donated to this project.

Thanks for caring about my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pastore

  • Teaching Tolerance Through Technology!

    Funded Jul 17, 2017

Thank you for supporting my "Teaching Tolerance through technology" project. I have begun using the chromebooks in my social studies classes. The chromebooks are awesome, light-weight and easy to use. My students are so excited about receiving new technology. They are grateful and impressed by the idea that others care about them and their education. Some truly fell overwhelmed.

We have incorporated the use of the new chromebooks in lessons that deal with examining the treatment of people during the Reconstruction era. They have watched video clips and analyzed songs using the chromebooks. They have researched different essential topics and key questions that deal with tolerance. We will continue to use the chromebooks throughout the year as we study human and civil rights. Thank you again for improving our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pastore

In order to stimulate my students’ interest in social studies, and further engage them in the classroom, I would like to create more opportunities for collaboration by having students work together, using Google Apps features on Chromebooks to create multimedia projects. This year I intend to incorporate socio-emotional learning into the seventh and eighth grade social studies curriculum. In learning stations my students will use Chromebooks to identify, compare, and evaluate multiple perspectives about historical events that are thematically related to tolerance. They will apply their knowledge of tolerance in different historical contexts by creating video clips, commercials, PowerPoint presentations, and podcasts to share their learning with other students. As one of the few arts schools in the Bronx, we try our best to create an environment that fosters creativity and collaboration through engaging projects that draw on our students’ artistic abilities of writing, recording, editing, directing, acting, singing, dancing, drawing, painting, and beyond.
