My "classroom" is actually a speech therapy room that has students from Kindergarten to 6th grade. The students that attend the elementary school that I work at come from a high poverty area and often struggle with lack of food, unstable living situations and exhibit many social and behavioral challenges. The students in my room are all special education students that exhibits a variety of speech/language, articulation, processing, and social delays/disorders. They are the students that others quickly see are different and due to these differences, they can be isolated from their peers and have difficulties navigating the social world. They feel safe in the speech therapy room and learn that they can do anything that they want to with knowledge, persistence, kindness and a positive self-worth.
