Our class needs a few reading comprehension kits to help engage them in finding evidence in a hands-on way. These phenomenal kits include a variety of texts, both narrative and informational, that help students with a variety of reading comprehension skills such as: inferring, comparing/contrasting, summarizing, determine main idea or theme, analyzing text structure, determining the point of view . . . but most importantly finding the text evidence to support their answers. I love that these Comprehension Kits focus not only on individual reading comprehension skills but primarily targets the skill of finding evidence to support thinking. I have found that students, even the best of readers, continue to struggle with this component when reading; I have also found, that as their teacher, I too humbly struggle with finding materials and resources to enhance this skill. My goal is to use these Comprehension Kits during small reading groups and centers to build individual student's reading skills while working on the overall goal of proving their ideas and responses through text evidence. I would love to add these Comprehension Kits to my classroom resources! I am also incorporating Chair Pockets. With the chair pockets, students will have a place to keep their books and other personal belongings. This will help keep our classroom cleaner, allow for students to easily access their work, and minimize transitions. There are so many skills taught throughout the course of a school day and organization should be one of them.
